How are the bikes so inexpensive?
When you purchase a bike from Critical Cycles you are buying your bike factory direct from the bicycle manufacturer. There are no company reps, retailers, or retail salesmen making commissions and mark-ups between you and us.
Where are the bikes made?
CriticalCycles are designed in California and distributed by an California Corporation that proudly boosts our national economy by creating many jobs in sales, warehousing, finance, marketing, design, and engineering. The bicycles are made in China and Taiwan, just like 93% of the bikes sold in USA. In fact 99% of bikes sold the USA are made in China or Taiwan including most of the top "European" brands (like Bianchi) - you can look this up with the NBDA if you are interested in verifying the facts.
From a manufacturing standpoint, we think you will find it interesting that it would cost over $1000 to manufacture similar bikes to ours in America. If we did manufacture in America we would be selling bikes for over a thousand bucks, which means we'd probably be out of business by now and you would have never heard of us! In addition we would still have to source most of our components from China & Taiwan since there aren't American manufacturers making bike components, tires, etc anymore.
We hope you understand that manufacturing abroad was a considered decision by our company, and we strongly believe that shipping bicycles across the Pacific Ocean in order to deliver incredible value to our customers is a small price to pay for getting thousands of folks to ride bikes instead of drive cars. We hope you will agree.
What size should I pick?
We recommend different sizes based on your height. You can refer to our sizing charts for our Fixed-Gear, Beach Cruisers, Hybrid/City, and Clearance Bikes.
Is there a weight limit on your bikes?
The weight limit on our bikes is approximately 220lbs.
Can I assemble my own bike?
Yes! All of the tools you need to assemble your fixed-gear and city bikes come in the box. You'll need to grab a few tools before you can start building your cruiser, though.
We highly recommend taking your bike to a qualified bike mechanic to make sure your bike is safe before riding. He or she will need to set up the derailleurs and brakes and true the wheels. Please keep in mind our bikes travel quite a bit to get from our warehouse to you and sometimes they can get hurt during transit, despite our best packaging efforts to keep them safe. Inspect your bike as soon as you receive it and contact us at email@example.com if you have an issues.

Will you assemble my bike?
If you ask really nicely, yes. We have a Bike & Build Program for people in the Los Angeles area. When you're checking out, you can choose the "ASSEMBLE MY BIKE" option for $25 and we'll contact you to setup a time (Monday-Friday, 9AM-4PM) for you to pick-up your bike at our warehouse in DTLA. If you have any questions before committing to this option, don't hesitate to ask us!
I changed my mind and I don't want the bike you guys built for me. Can I cancel my order and get a refund?
We can refund you for the bike, but please note that the assembly fee is non-refundable.
How do I cancel my order if it has already been shipped and I haven't received it yet?
Contact us immediately, and we will contact FedEx to see if it the shipment can be re-routed back to us. If it cannot, then you will need to wait for it to arrive and then return it. If we are able to re-route it back to our DC, then we will do so and refund your order upon receipt, minus $40 to cover re-routing shipping & handling.
Why do your fixies come with BMX handlebars?
Some people enjoy doing tricks, and others just want to cruise. We like BMX bars for all types of riding because they come up a little bit higher so that the rider can be more upright and comfortable while riding.
Do the bikes come with a brake?
Yes, and we do not recommend riding brakeless. While the brake is removable, we don't see any advantage to riding brakeless and we urge you to perform your skids and ride hard with brakes (otherwise known as "Plan B") at all times.
How can I clean my rims without taking off the finish?
It’s normal for brake pad material to transfer to the braking surface on the rim. The paint along the rim braking surface will eventually wear off exposing the aluminum underneath, which is normal and not a warranty issue. The bike will actually stop more quickly once the paint is rubbed off by the brake pads.

How long will it take for me to receive my bike?

Don't worry! Your package is on its way and will be trackable after 5PM PST on the day you receive your tracking number.
